Frequently asked questions

PlutoRx 101

What is PlutoRx

PlutoRx is Canada’s first truly integrated pet healthcare platform. We provide on-demand treatment for chronic pet health needs like tick & flea, diet, anxiety, and more. Founded in 2024, our digital-first approach to healthcare includes everything from diagnosis to prescription — all accessible from the comfort of home.

Does PlutoRx replace my vet?

No. PlutoRx provides a faster, hassle-free way for you to obtain prescriptions for certain pet medications, but our service does not replace your veterinarian. For issues that go beyond getting a prescription for medications, we encourage you to consult your primary veterinarian in person—whether for checkups, health concerns, or to inform them about the medications your pet is currently using. Your vet is the best resource for personalized care and guidance for your pet's well-being.

Can my pet's needs be accurately assessed remotely?

Absolutely. Our online assessments have been designed to ask all the necessary questions required for diagnosis. We've worked with veterinarians and specialists to create an assessment process that can provide sufficient information for the pet care practitioner to determine whether or not you are eligible for a prescription.

It's an emergency. What do I do?

In case of an emergency, please contact your nearest emergency pet care clinic. Once the emergency has been addressed or resolved, contact your primary pet care professional to inform them of your experience as this may impact your pet's current treatment.

Who can use PlutoRx

Pet owners over the age of 18 located in Ontario and British Columbia. We cannot ship treatments and medication outside of these provinces at this time.

Online Visits

How does PlutoRx work?

After creating an account, you will complete a VCPR (Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship) form and a veterinary assessment form for evaluation by one of our veterinarians.

During your assessment, you will have the opportunity to include any pertinent information about your pet within the forms.

In most cases, practitioners will complete your assessment after reviewing your submitted forms but sometimes they may determine they require additional information prior to prescribing any treatment or medication, in which case they will reach out to you for clarification.

If your veterinarian has determined a prescription treatment is appropriate, they will write you a prescription. Our pharmacy partners will then ship your prescription to your home.

You’ll be able to message your Veterinarian if you have questions about your treatment.

How quickly will a veterinarian review my prescription request?

You can expect to receive a response from a veterinarian within 24 hours of submission. If you’ve been waiting longer than this, please email hello@plutorx.ca and we’ll look into it.

Privacy and Security

Is my information private and secure?

Yes, your security is paramount to PlutoRx. Pet health information provided through submitted assessments is strictly and legally confidential between you and the Pluto's Veterinarian.

Beyond that, all your account information (including assessments, credit card, and shipping information, etc.) is also stored safely and securely. PlutoRx is compliant with all federal and provincial legislation. It is our duty to protect your data with comprehensive security infrastructure and stringent data policies to ensure it stays private and secure.

Is this legal?

Yes! In Canada, only a licensed veterinarian can write a prescription, and only a registered veterinarian or pharmacist can fill that prescription. We are supported by both veterinarians and pharmacists. PlutoRx adheres strictly to all the regulations set forth by all applicable Colleges of Pharmacists and Colleges of Veterinarians in which we operate.

Is this safe?

Absolutely. All prescriptions obtained via PlutoRx are provided by licensed Canadian veterinarians—the same as you would get at a veterinarian's office, or clinic. These practitioners do not provide prescriptions unless they deem it medically safe and appropriate to write them based on your pet's medical profile and assessment answers. Our assessments have been crafted by our veterinarian partners. Finally, all PlutoRx pharmacy partners are provincially accredited just like any retail pharmacy.

How is my privacy protected?

Your privacy is our top priority. All your data is 256 bit SSL/TLS encrypted, and we take significant steps to keep your data secure. You can read our Privacy Policy for more information.

Shipping

How long will it take to get my treatment?

Not long. After completing your pet's assessment, a veterinarian will generally respond within 24 hours, and often much sooner.

Prescriptions will be processed within 2-3 business days of your pet's approval date if there is nothing blocking fulfillment.

All packages are shipped via our courier partners, which usually takes 2-3 business days. You will receive an email with your tracking number once your pet's medications has been shipped.

What is the delivery process?

All PlutoRx shipments arrive in a nondescript blister package so you can have your treatment shipped wherever is most convenient for you as long as there is someone there to sign for it.

Do I have to be home to receive my package?

A signature upon delivery may be required.

How much does it cost to ship my treatment?

There is currently no cost to have your treatment shipped to you from our PlutoRx Pharmacy network.

What courier do you use for shipping?

Our pharmacy partners use Canada Post and/or Purolator for shipping.
